It's a new day! Every day brings a new beginning

Make a Fresh Start

Every day offers a fresh start, a new beginning, a clean slate. It is a welcoming thought especially is when today is not going too well. Sometimes on a difficult day, the temptation is to think “Tomorrow is a new day. I just have to get through today.” it is true that tomorrow will offer another chance to start fresh. But why wait? You can start your new beginning on your own terms every day – as many times as you choose.

Take just a minute. Get rid of the negative energy. Close your eyes. Breathe. Relax.
Think: ‘It is a new day. Right now. This moment is the beginning of my new, better day’

Some days, we start with lots of energy with the new light but the events of the day wear us down. Initiating your own reboot can help to recapture that positive feeling.

Create Ritual

Many years ago, I spent a year teaching in Morocco. A group of us got in the habit of doing morning mediation together with the sunrise every day. We would sit on a hill top and watch the light change and sun rise over distant hills, breathing in and out slowing, appreciating the beauty and taking in the energy of the sun. It was exhilarating and it was possible to return to that feeling throughout the day. When I finished that contract and returned to Canada, I got out of the habit of early morning outings to watch the sun. Recently, I have started to revise the practice. These days, I mostly watch the sun rise out of my upstairs window – that where I took the picture on this post. Occasionally, I make the short drive to an ocean beach where I can listen to the soothing sounds of the waves while I let the morning light wash over me. Those options are not always available, especially when I want a new day mid day. I have a framed picture of a spectacular ocean sunrise that I took close to home. It is on the wall across from my desk and reminds me that when the pressures of the day having me longing for a new tomorrow, I can start my own new day. Today. This moment.

Visualize

If you need some inspiration, try posting a sunrise on your bulletin board (real or virtual) or find a suitable screen saver or video feed that makes you feel centred. If you need a new start for your day, focus on that image. Tell yourself “I’m ready to let go and make a new beginning.” Breathe in the energy and light. Breathe out whatever it is that is feeling heavy and weighing you down. Repeat a few times. Be open to receive the cleansing energy of the morning sun. And welcome your brand new day.
